This years event was held on 4th February in the village hall and arranged by members of Newton Village Hall committee and had 130 people present.
The evening started with singer Simon Dee performing a mixture of old and modern songs with comedian Lee Lard, (a Peter Kay Tribute Act), taking over proceedings after the hot supper had been served. Simon then performed for a second time with dancing for those attending.
As usual for this event the committee had decided to donate the proceeds of the evenings raffle to a local charity and this year had chosen Field Nurse. Neville Pearson had pleasure in handing over a cheque for £740 to Christine Parkinson for this cause.
Field Nurse is a local charity which enables nurse to go to the local auction marts in Clitheroe and Gisburn to provide health advice to local farmers and rural residents. Please go to their website for further details on the charity. www.fieldnurse.org.uk
Thanks go to everyone involved in organising this event, whether it be from setting up the hall, providing the supper, baking the cakes, donating raffle prizes or indeed just attending on the night.
Photo below shows nurses Susan Aspin, Jane Spurgeon and Helen Marginson, Field Nurse trustee Christine Parkinson and Neville Pearson, vice chairman of the village hall committee.

Yet again we had a very successful race on bank holiday Monday 2nd May
The weather, as usual, was unpredictable with rain falling on the Sunday and Monday morning causing the water level to rise rapidly, very nearly taking the guide planks and a committee member downstream, all adding to the fun.
Thanks go to everyone involved in helping to run the event, to Bill Pinder for the use of his field, to everyone for the donation of prizes and cakes, and of course to all that sold and bought ducks.
Congratulations to the winners, of which there were 34 with the main prizes going to
1st £100 Justine Whittaker
2nd 50 Jennifer
3rd £25 Elizabeth Parsons
Thank you for your support
