A successful duck race was organised and held on Bank Holiday Monday 1st May. The weather was kind and the ducks were thrown from the bridge to start the race with the finishing line being moved further downstream than usual due to the river being relatively low. To add to the entertainment committee members fell in the river as they were ushering the ducks along all adding to the fun. Ladies of the village hall committee served refreshments to the large number of attendees and the winners were announced.
Thanks go to Mr Bill Pinder for the use of his field, to everyone who sold the ducks and to those that donated prizes and cakes.
Please see the attached for a full list of winners

Ever dreamed of walking on the red carpet at the premier of a new play or film? Well now you can.
Newton-in-Bowland Village Hall Committee is pleased to present the world premier of Alan Stockdills’ new play ‘Dark Sky’. By the same writer and production company that brought you ‘Godfreys Last Stand’, this play sees the Dark Sky animal rights group planning an audacious strike against the Sutton Life Sciences laboratory. But is everyone who they appear to be? Who can you trust? Are they dangerous or just a hapless group of amateurs? Inspired by a real story, ‘Dark Sky is a black comedy with more than a twist or two.
The script flies off the page with energy, comedy, twists, turns and surprises. One minute you will be speculating, the next you’ll be shocked. Laughing, then considering. It’s not all black and white, there are several shades of grey.
When the Sky gets Dark will we see the Light?
Join us on Saturday April 22nd at 7.30pm to find out what happens.
Tickets are £7 per person, include light refreshments and there will be a licensed bar.
Why not dress up for this red carpet occasion!

This years event was held on 4th February in the village hall and arranged by members of Newton Village Hall committee and had 130 people present.
The evening started with singer Simon Dee performing a mixture of old and modern songs with comedian Lee Lard, (a Peter Kay Tribute Act), taking over proceedings after the hot supper had been served. Simon then performed for a second time with dancing for those attending.
As usual for this event the committee had decided to donate the proceeds of the evenings raffle to a local charity and this year had chosen Field Nurse. Neville Pearson had pleasure in handing over a cheque for £740 to Christine Parkinson for this cause.
Field Nurse is a local charity which enables nurse to go to the local auction marts in Clitheroe and Gisburn to provide health advice to local farmers and rural residents. Please go to their website for further details on the charity. www.fieldnurse.org.uk
Thanks go to everyone involved in organising this event, whether it be from setting up the hall, providing the supper, baking the cakes, donating raffle prizes or indeed just attending on the night.
Photo below shows nurses Susan Aspin, Jane Spurgeon and Helen Marginson, Field Nurse trustee Christine Parkinson and Neville Pearson, vice chairman of the village hall committee.
