GET YOUR LEAD PIPES REPLACED FOR FREE
A free scheme for Newton-in-Bowland residents is launching soon, giving you the opportunity to get your lead pipes replaced – without the plumbing bills.
Many properties in Newton-in- Bowland are likely to have lead water pipes, which were installed many decades ago.
Traces of lead in water can cause a health risk over time, with children under six and pregnant mums being the most susceptible. The best way to remove the risk is to replace the lead pipes.
United Utilities, the water company for the area, is offering to replace these pipes, free of charge, giving your family peace of mind.
HOW THE SCHEME WORKS
The scheme is absolutely free for Newton-in-Bowland residents – and could save you upwards of £600 in plumbing bills.
If you’d like to take advantage, United Utilities would carry out a survey at your home to check for lead pipes.
It’s likely that significant number of properties in Newton have a lead ‘supply’ pipe – the pipe beneath your garden or drive which brings water to each home.
The company will replace your lead supply pipe with a modern, plastic version and check to see if any internal plumbing in your home is still made from lead. If it is, United Utilities will replace the pipework that feeds the kitchen sink, and provide advice on any other lead pipes in your home.
FIND OUT MORE
Representatives from United Utilities will be available in the Village Hall to discuss the scheme and answer your questions.
You can drop in between 3pm and 7.30pm on the following dates:
Tues 10th March
Tues 17th March
Tues 24th March
You can also register your interest, and find out more about the scheme, by calling United Utilities on 0345 672 3723 and quoting the project number 80040799
More information about lead pipes, and the health issues is available at www.unitedutilities.com
